Early Life

Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, known as Future, was born on November 20, 1983, in Atlanta, Georgia. He earned the nickname “The Future” upon joining The Dungeon Family, a musical collective. His cousin, Rico Wade, a member and record producer of The Dungeon Family, motivated Future to hone his rapping and songwriting talents, helping him to pursue a music career. Wade provided Future a safe haven from a life on the streets, and Future has frequently acknowledged his cousin as the genius behind his distinctive sound.

Career

Future began releasing mixtapes in 2010, which included “1000,” “Dirty Sprite,” and “True Story.” He collaborated with Gucci Mane on the album “Free Bricks.” As DJ Esco began spinning Future’s tracks at Magic City, a famous strip club in Atlanta, his popularity soared. The establishment is known for propelling the careers of several Atlanta rappers. In the fall of 2011, Epic Records approached Future, leading to a record deal and the subsequent release of the mixtape “Streetz Calling,” his most successful mixtape to date. In spring 2012, he debuted his first album, “Pluto,” which featured four successful singles, including “Turn on the Lights,” peaking at number two on the U.S. hip hop and R&B charts. His second album, “Honest,” was released in 2014, followed by his third, “DS2,” in 2015, and his fourth, “Evol,” in 2016. The album “FUTURE” was launched in February 2017, and within a week, he released another project titled “HNDRXX.”

In mid-October 2018, the mixtape “Wrld on Drugs” was released by Future in collaboration with the late rapper Juice Wrld. This project debuted at number two on the U.S. charts, trailing behind the Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga soundtrack for “A Star Is Born.” “Wrld on Drugs” marked Future’s 10th album to reach the top 10 in the U.S. His seventh studio album, “Future Hndrxx Presents: The Wizrd,” released in January 2019, also served as the soundtrack for the film “The Wizrd,” which premiered on Apple Music on January 11, 2019.
