Danny DeVito’s Salary and Net Worth
With a net worth of $80 million, Danny DeVito is a celebrated American actor, comedian, film director, and producer. He first gained recognition for his role as taxi dispatcher Louie De Palma in the TV series “Taxi,” winning both a Golden Globe and an Emmy award. Subsequently, he became a prominent film star, featured in notable movies such as “Throw Momma from the Train,” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Terms of Endearment,” “Romancing the Stone,” “Twins,” “Batman Returns,” “Get Shorty,” and “L.A. Confidential.” Since 2006, he has also been a part of the FX/FXX comedy series “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
His Early Life
Born on November 17, 1944, in Neptune Township, New Jersey, Daniel Michael DeVito Jr. suffers from multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (Fairbank’s disease), a rare genetic disorder impacting bone growth, which contributes to his height of 4 feet, 10 inches. Raised in Asbury Park, New Jersey, he has two older sisters and comes from Italian heritage; he was also raised in the Catholic faith.
Starting His Career
DeVito completed his education at Oratory Preparatory School in Summit, New Jersey, in 1962, where he first ventured into acting through school plays like “St. Francis of Assisi” and “The Billion Dollar Saint.” After high school, he worked at his sister’s salon, seeing it as a chance to meet young women. However, after 18 months, he shifted his focus to the more lucrative cosmetics profession. While looking for a makeup instructor, he came across the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, ultimately applying and performing a monologue as part of his application. Receiving positive feedback led him to shift his focus to acting, graduating from the academy in 1966.
In his early acting career, DeVito collaborated with the Colonnades Theater Lab at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center located in Waterford, Connecticut, and took part in productions from the Westbeth Playwrights Feminist Collective.

As a result, DeVito quickly ascended to stardom, further bolstered by his portrayal of taxi dispatcher Louie De Palma in the television series “Taxi” (1978–1983). Outside of acting and directing, DeVito is also known for his philanthropy. He has been actively involved in various charitable organizations, particularly those focused on children, health, and the environment. He has been a long-time supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies, often attending games and showing his loyalty to the team. This love for baseball ties back to his roots in New Jersey, where he grew up following the sport.
